Feature request - GFS start time definable

Hi Folks,

The situation is that because files are in use, Veeam backs them up to disk during the night.

The problem is that with the GFS job also starting during the night, it overlaps the backups and we get "corruption" error warnings in some of the jobs.

What I'd like to do, is have the GFS job start during the day... so that the disk to tape job runs while there is no overnight backup activity; but the problem is that this is always scheduled to start at midnight and there seems to be no flexibility in this.

What kind of corruption error did you get? If a backup file is locked, GFS backup to tape job should patiently wait till it's released instead of generating corruption errors. Thanks.

Dear VEEAM,

+1 for the feature request to be able to set the starting time of a GFS backup to tape job.
I know this is a popular request.
At this moment, it starts 'by design' at midnight.
I want to be able to set the exact starting time of this job (just like most other scheduled tasks).

Hi Nikita and thank you for your reply & welcome message.
The short answer is: I want to be in control. Why should I not be able to set the starting moment of a ‘backup to tape’ job?
And to explain it a bit more: we have daily ‘backup to disk’ jobs that start every evening & weekly ‘backup to tape’ jobs. Since circa a month, Veeam is too busy in the weekend what results in slower disk & tape jobs. I want to be able to set myself the exact starting time of the Veeam jobs so disk & tape jobs are not running at the same time.

I want to add an extra comment to this feature request:
It would be very beneficial if you could start the GFS tape job after a specific disk job.
I can imagine that in many case, the GFS tape job should start, when disk jobs are finished.

That's our current approach - GFS job sits and waits till source job creates a backup. As soon it's created, it gets archived to tapes. Thanks.

For Veeam Software Engineers - could you change the VBR system to allow specifying a Start Time for Weekly/Monthly/Yearly tape jobs created based on GFS Media Pool for full backups?

Currently that is pre-set to start at 12:00 PM of the scheduled day by Software design and there is No way to change it.

We have a business need to run such Tape Jobs at a later time since our full synthetic jobs run Saturday Night and some servers finish next date around 3:00 AM, thus, if the systems allows us to specify the run time, it would be fantastic to backup to tape such late finishing servers.

The only workaround for us is to run such tape jobs manually on Monday or Change the Tape Job to run on Monday. Yet, it's not exactly the best solution for us.

Kindly, may I hear from you in this regard?

I also need this feature.

We have our tape backups stored externally and I want my monthly backup done on last friday. If I configure GFS to do the tape backup on saturday, it gets friday backup, right, but If saturday is 1st of month, tape monthly is done previous saturday, and this is not a correct behaviour. I need to set the tape backup in the same day just after my daily backup, not at 00:00 which is completely useless for me.

Maybe there is a misunderstanding

the original post says

and the reference manual linked says

"Schedule for GFS Job
This step of the wizard is available if you selected a GFS media pool at the Full Backup step of the wizard.

Click Schedule to select days for each media set. The GFS job starts at 00:00 on the selected day."

So the feature requested do not appear to be implemented.

Or Maybe the GFS Scan daily time change the hour of starting the GFS job starting ? (not tried, aldìso i've to admit i've to Understand what's the GFS Scan scheduling do )
