File to tape license Enterpriese Plus

Post by OMW72 »

Hi all,
we are in the process to upgrade to the Version 12.3.
In the upgrade checklist we found the following:

Are you using File to Tape jobs? Consider the following:
File to tape jobs have been re-engineered for scalability and are no longer free with Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3. You will have a grace period of 3 months following the upgrade to Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3 during which your existing jobs will not consume a license. For more information, see the Instance Consumption for Object Storage Backup, File Backup and File to Tape Jobs section. Note that backup to tape jobs do not consume licenses.
File to tape jobs can now process Distributed File Systems (DFS) data

Currently we have Enterprise Plus licenses for the version 12.2.0.334. Is the file to tape feature a part of the EnterprisePlus license? Or is it necessary to order a new license when we want to upgrade to 12.3?
Regards,
Oliver

Hi Oliver,

The feature itself does not require licenses to use, but the amount of data backed up will now require VUL instances. Jobs backing up < 500 GiB are free (as in beer), and every 500 GiB requires 1 instance: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120

Backing up backup files with File to Tape does not require instances, but in general if you have Enterprise(+) license, it's best to do Backup to Tape instead of File to tape to protect backups of your workloads when possible.
