File to Tape - parallel streaming from source
Good Day
Have configured a File to Tape job. Under Files and Folders, i have configured two "source" folders. When the job is running, it processes the folders one after each other. is there any option to force the job to read from 2 ore more sources in parallel and write to one tape drive? I know there can be disadvantages specially for restore performance. but it would be a great option for better Performance during backup. It would be nice if there would be a drop down in which you can select how many streams in parallel you wan't to read and write to one drive.
Best Regards
André

Hello Andre,
Unfortunately parallel processing does not support file to tape jobs now, so file to tape works sequentially. I'll add your vote to this feature request. Cheers!

Add my vote too. I need to be able to run multiple streams in file to tape jobs to keep the tape buffers full.

Thank you for sharing your feedback folks! Can you please clarify if files that you want to process in parallel are located within single file server or you are talking about multiple source servers? Cheers!

in my case there are two folders on the same server. but i guess it should also work in parallel if there are two (or more) source folders from different server in the same job. thanks

Re: File to Tape - parallel streaming from source
Mine would be from the same server or filer. Example, I have 4 disks to back up on a server and I have 4 tape drives available... To back up all 4 disks at the same time using all 4 tape drives I need 4 separate tape jobs. I would like to have 1 job list all 4 disks, and either set the media pool and job to allow 4 drives in uses at once with single streams or a smaller number of drives with multiple streams. Either would be useful. Feel free to shoot me a PM/DM if you need more info.
