Hello
So ive transitioned to veeam and coming from backupexec its a very different way of working with tape drives. Ive worked out how to get my last backups to tape for offline storage but I need to a move an older full backup to tape as well. With backupexec you would just select the backup from your equivalent repository and send it to the tape and job done. I cant find any method so far do this in veeam ? I cant move the entire backup chain as its too large and isnt required I just need to move a full backup from a few months ago for legal reasons to tape. Do i need to export the backup I want and reimport it somehow and send to tape ?

Re: Guidance coming from backupexec with veaam
Hello,
and welcome to the forums. Yes, Veeam is designed for "backup to disk". So with tapes there are many differences to software that came from a time where "backup top tape" was state of the art.
A File-to-tape job can copy every file to tape. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
If you already have the full backup available, then you can just point to it. Export would also work if the day you need is currently an incremental restore point.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Guidance coming from backupexec with veaam
So my scenario and maybe I've gone about it the wrong way, I have a data server where I'm taking the whole volume where user data resides as a job instead of doing a copy files job for my normal backups. I have weekly fulls and incrementals going back around 3 months. I have managed to get the most recent fulls to tape easy enough but I need to take the full backup from 3 months ago and send to the tape. The only options i could see was sending every backup related to the server which isnt possible due to size and not what i needed anyway. With the file to tape option you mention above are you meaning I would select the actual full backup file after exporting it and send to tape ? Sorry if its a silly question but i couldnt find how you point to just the full backup from a few months back to send to tape ?

Re: Guidance coming from backupexec with veaam
yes, backup is normally per-VM / machine (or more complicated per volume / disk)
if the full backup already exists, then you can point to it directly in the file-to-tape job by selecting all the VBKs you need https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
if the day you want to send to tape only exists as a VIB file (increment), then you need to export to a VBK (full backup) first. As far as I understood you, direct selection of the VBK files is possible.
