HPE 1/8 G2 Autoloader - is it possible to change tapes during a running job?

Post by ROSA »

I have a HPE 1/8 G2 Autoloader with a LTO4 drive.
The library has only 8 slots and one is occupied by the cleaning tape (for automatic cleaning).
If a job grows, that it doesn't fit on the 7 tapes inside the library, how do I replace the already full tapes with empty ones during a running job.
If I simply remove one of the magazines (there are 2, each for 4 tapes), the library goes offline, which will probably cause the running job to fail.
Putting the library in maintenance mode will probably cause the running job to fail too.
I just assume, I didn't test it.
Is there a way, or do I have to split the job to smaller jobs, that it fits?

Hi Rosa

I see with that tape loader model you can configure a mail slot. A mail slot can be used to import and export tapes without putting the loader offline.

I recommend to have 5-6 Tapes and 1 Cleaning Tape in the Tape Loader and 1 slot configured as the mail slot. The tape loader then can move a full tape to the mail slot and you can take it out and provide a new tape if veeam requests one.

Or you can split the jobs in veeam.

Thanks

Hi Mildur,

it seems, the mail slot is the correct solution.

Thank you very much.
