HPE StoreOnce 5100 VTL mode
Hello all,
is it possible to use the HPE StoreOnce 5100 in VTL mode, that is without the need to deploy an additional server as gateway?
If not, what would be the best scanrio to deploy the HPE appliance?
Env:
Multiple ESXI hosts running on multiple IBM bladecenters, no 10 Gbe plateforme , two 8Gb FC ports available on the StoreOnce appliance (10Gbe ports available but not supported in the datacenter), tape-out from the appliance to SAN attached physical library is needed .
Thanks in advance for any advice !

Hello Mustapha.
You need to install the Tape Server component at windows host. It could be Veeam B&R server itself or existing StoreOnce gateway server. Cheers!

You can create a VTL and publish it to your backup server via FC; as Dima wrote you'll have to install the tape server.
"tape-out from the appliance to SAN attached physical library is needed"
->Why do you want to use the StoreOnce VTL if you have a physical library?

Re: HPE StoreOnce 5100 VTL mode
Hello,
Thank you Dima and Regnor for your feedback.
So after installing the tape server component on the B&R server, and publishing the VTL through SAN, I should be able to use it as a backup repository for backups? (am a bit confused here because in the docs I got the idea that I need either a catalyst store, or to use VTL a staging area)
Per your question Regnor, the storeonce would be needed for short term retention, while the physical library would be needed for long term retention and archiving.
Thanks !

VTL is a virtual tape library so it can't be used as a repository; you'll be able to copy backups to virtual tapes.
If you want to use the StoreOnce as a repository than you either need to connect it via Storonce catalyst or SMB.
