Ignore Tape Library

Post by pronto »

Servus Community,

we installed two backup software products on a backup server and connected two tape libraries to it. One software (Retrospect) is used for archiving purposes, because it allows a single item restore. With Veeam we back up the backups of the productive servers.

Each software should work with its own library. Can we configure Veeam to completely ignore the second library to avoid a softlock and problems on the other software with the second library?

Thx & Bye Tom

Hello pronto,

Is it possible to connect the second device to another server? Unfortunately Veeam B&R collects information about all tape device connected to a tape proxy and there is no way to disconnect some specific device from Veeam B&R (unless tape proxy role is installed on the machine with no access to that particular tape device).

For the upcoming v11 version we will provide the ability to put tape library in so called maintenance mode which will force Veeam B&R to ignore such library. Cheers!

Servus Dima,

at the moment I don't have a server available where I could connect the second library. It would have just been a nice to have feature because we have two working libraries at the moment. With that we could have practiced on the part of Veeam for a while and tried out a few scenarios. Then it has to work somehow but at some point we have to get rid of our old backup software...

Thx & Bye Tom
