Imported Backup Copy to tape
Hi together,
Is there a way, to write the latest restore point of an imported backup chain onto tape?
I know, that v8 has the possibility to create a synthesized restore point in order to write a full backup even if the latest restore point is a vib, but how do I write it to tape when it is an imported backup chain without the according backup job on this server.
Thanks a lot.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Timo,
You can point backup to tape job to the repository where imported backup chain resides.

Hi Dmitry,
thanks for the reply.
I tried that, but unfortunately the job finds no files to backup in this case.

Timo,
Sorry that seems to be unexpected. Will investigate with QA and let you know the results.

Also, what happens if you create "dummy" backup job, map it to the said backup chain, and select the "dummy" job as a source for backup to tape job? Thanks.

Re: Imported Backup Copy to tape
Thanks Dmitry for investigating in this.
Creating a dummy backup job and map it to the imported backup copy chain makes it possible to copy the full backup of that chain to tape, Vladimir.
But although there is an additional .vib, Veeam only copied the .vbk without creating a synthesized full backup with both files merged to the most up to date restore point. Is this expected?
Thanks again.

Re: Imported Backup Copy to tape
Is the latest restore point in chain incremental or full backup? Is "process increments" option enabled in the setting of backup to tape job? Re: Imported Backup Copy to tape
The latest restore point is an incremental backup.
This is a backup copy chain with the minimum of two restore points and no GFS retention.
"Processing increments" option is enabled.

Re: Imported Backup Copy to tape
In order to synthesized full to work day selected for synthesized full creation and day an increment is created should coincide; which doesn't seem to be the case in your situation. Thanks.

Hi Vladimir,
I enabled all days for the creation of a fill synthesized backup.
Should it be created in this case?

Re: Imported Backup Copy to tape
What I meant was that both synthesized full backup and incremental backup job cycle should take place on the very same day. Thanks.
