A standalone tape drive can't read tapes labels. So normally I insert each tape, inventory it in Veeam and rename it according to the label.
This task takes about 1 minute, so not that long, but the more tapes you have the more annoying it gets.
So I was wondering if there's any better or easier way to inventory new tapes.

Re: Inventorying/naming new tapes in a standalone drive
Hi Max,
Custom tape name should be stored in Veeam DB, so once you set the custom name you dont need to change it manually (unless you remove the tape from catalog). Are you talking about giving the tape name some predefined pattern by default? Cheers!

Re: Inventorying/naming new tapes in a standalone drive
Hi Dima,
I'm talking about the inital naming for new tapes. If you enter a new/unknown tape, Veeam will call it TapeXXXX. Then you have to rename it to the corresponding label.
If you could change the default naming pattern from Veeam to your own schema or somehow pre-stage tapes, then you could save some time.
