Label detection

Post by Ronneld »

Hi all!

We're using Veeam B&R 10 and we're now having the case that if we re-use tapes from the past they are not getting the names indicated on the labels but another name, most likely from the older label.
Is this old information stored in an ID or something? And can we "force" Veeam to primarily use the barcode from the label to recognize a tape instead of something else?

Thanks in advance for an input here!

Best regards

Ronald

Hello Ronald,

Can you please clarify if you've upgraded your Veeam B&R installation to v10, or it's a brand new v10 setup? Thank you!

Hi!

There has been an update from 9.5 to 10, but the issue occured already with 9.5.
It seems like if we delete these tapes from the libary the label is used later on to recognize the tape.
Question then still would be: Can we force to read from the label first ...

TIA!

Assuming you have a library with bardcode scanner to read the labels? have these tapes moved from one tape library to another?

When a tape is initialized, the barcode on the sticker is written to cartridge memory (a small memory chip in every LTO tape).
When you moved the tapes, did you peel the barcode sticker off and replace it with a different barcode? If so, have you re-initialized the tapes in the new library?

Hi! Yes, i did so. I will try this, thanks. SO there's no way to have this done nautomatically, just by changing the label? There's always a manual action necessary?

Thanks already!

If you replace the barcode on the used media it must be removed from Veeam B&R catalog to avoid any conflicts. Mind me asking why it was necessary to change the barcode sticker on your media? Thanks!
