LTO5 tapes showing different capacity in Veeam
Hi
I have a mix of HP C7975A and Sony LTX1500G tapes.
The HP tapes in Veeam show as 2.3TB while the Sony only show 1.4TB.
I am wondering why this is different for them and if there is something I can change so they are all 2.3TB.

Hello,
sounds correct to me... the name for has 1500 in it... so it's 1.5TB, meaning 1.4TB is correct.
The HP C7975A should also show 1.4TB... maybe it's a firmware issue, tape drive issue... hard to say, but 2.3TB would be LTO6.
Best regards,
Hannes

Yeah, are you sure you have the model's right? C7975A is listed as LTO5 so it should have a lower capacity than 2.3 TiB.
Also, I really hope you have two separate tape libraries for this! Different vendors use different tensions for their tapes and it can mess with the drive and at best eat your tape, or at worst, your drive will eat itself

yeh they are correct. Both tape models came out of unopened packets.
I have ordered some new LTO6 tapes. So will be interested to see what size Veeam thinks these are.
This will also remove having multiple brands of tapes

somoa,
Native or uncompressed space should be displayed.I have ordered some new LTO6 tapes. So will be interested to see what size Veeam thinks these are.
Good idea, makes tape jobs more manageable in terms of retention / capacity. Please keep in mind that it's not recommended to use multiple tape generations within the same library. This will also remove having multiple brands of tapes

Thanks for them tips. Was not planning on keeping any of the Sony tapes running.
I might end up removing all current tapes and use only the new ones going forward.
