LTO6 WORM only write 1.2TB CaseID 04665125
Hy!
We have a Tanberg LTO-6 Tapedrive. The problem is our Tanbergdrive or Veeam only write 1.2 TB on LTO-6 Worm tape.
I don't understand this, because our backup is only 3,2 TB big. With RW Tapes its not a problem. We get it on 2 Tapes.
But WORM Tape says after 1.2 TB to change the tape. Does anyone know something about this?
The Job is a FULL File to Tapejob with the VBK files (3.2TB).
No compression is activated.

Can you please share the tape exact model number.
There are LTO<yourversion> tapes that have only half or 1/3rd of the capacity and are used for "fast access" within document management systems.
In the end we write until we hit the tape end mark.

Hello Karl,
Indeed, it sounds like the tape was somehow partitioned (thus one partition is used for backup and another keeps some space reserved), you can check that with vendor's tools. Please keep working with our support team. Cheers!

HPE LTO 6 Ultrium Tape WORM (C7976W) we bought this tapes.
Last Year we did exact the same and it took only two tapes. This year its strange.
Now we put the third Tape in it and it took really long.
Connection is ISCSI 10GB to the Tanberg
Lets see. It is running and I hope we can restore.
It looks like the Tapedrive is going to die or something else.

The C7976W is the normal capacity model and I can not recall that HPE had any special formating available that you could order.
I worked with Tandberg in the past very closely and their service is excellent. Maybe open a support ticket there and reference it in our support case.

Hi Karl,
Your are talking about a 10G iSCSI connection. The only Tandberg Data product offering a 10G (iSCSI) connection is the RDX QuikStation, but his hardware model does not offer any WORM capabilities. WORM feature on a RDX media can be realized though an additional software stack, rdxLOCK, but it not a part of the QuikStation.
Since you are talking about tape and the P/N of the HP media used, its obviously physical tape hardware you are using.
Can you please provide more information about the devices used and the environment?
1,3 TB of data on a single tape rings a bell here. Is it possible that you accidentally grabbed a LTO gen5 WORM media? This generation has a capacity of 1,5 TB.
Did you tried to write to a standard to LTO gen6 media for testing purposes, so non-WORM media to check how much data ends up on the tape?
Did you opened a ticket at the vendors support to get help here? If so, what was the outcome?
