Monthly backup job to tape scheduling
What is the best way to do this as I have a Weekly backup to tape job that runs every Friday but I also want to create a Monthly backup to tape job that will run on the last Friday of the month.
As these will conflict once a month what is the best way to do this as Backup Exec you could pick which job superseded the other.

Re: Monthly backup job to tape scheduling
Dale,
It is possible with the following options:
- Media pool > create media set for each backup session
- Job schedule > Run job daily at these days > Friday
- Specify the desired retention (at least one week)
Now once you want to archive a monthly set of tapes with backups – use protect option on the last media set, and such tapes won’t be overwritten by retention. When no longer needed, bring this tapes back to the library and unprotect them – it will be erased and used by the original media pool for further backups.

Be aware that tape protection can be also enabled via Enable-VBRTapeProtection commandlet, so that, mediums belonging to the month's latest mediaset can be automatically protected. Thanks.

Re: Monthly backup job to tape scheduling
I have the same similar situation. I have a Weekly Backup of every Friday and a Monthly Backup of the last Friday. Weekly has a different retention period than Monthly. How can I skip the last Weekly Friday?
I tried to follow the suggestions above.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Media pool > create media set for each backup session
-Job schedule > Run job daily at these days > Friday
-Specify the desired retention (at least one week)
Now once you want to archive a monthly set of tapes with backups – use protect option on the last media set
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not able to follow the last sentence "Now once you want to archive a monthly set of tapes with backups – use protect option on the last media set". Can you explain a little more.

Re: Monthly backup job to tape scheduling
Hello Eric and welcome to the community!
This topic is 3 years old and the suggested workaround is not needed now due to Tape GFS Media Pools released from that time.

GFS Media Pools is for Enterprise only. Unfortunately I have only the Standard.

Re: Monthly backup job to tape scheduling
Without GFS retention there is no easy workaround to avoid duplication. The one I can think of is a powershell script starting by windows scheduler which disables the job on 24th of every month and enables it back on 1st of the next month.
As far as I remember all suggested quasi-tape GFS workarounds worked with backup duplication.
Thanks.
