Monthly job
Dear all,
Please note that i need your help in the following:
I have a monthly tape job which Veeam is automatically overwriting the file because it has the same name; the problem is for example at the end of February 2019 i had to delete the files of Feb 2018 in order to be able to run the job.
1- Tape still have a lot of empty space it can easily support new files.
2- I don't want to remove the old files
any thoughts please? i would really appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Monthly job
Hello Jad,
Do you have GFS Media Pool or simple Media Pool?
Do you use Tape Protection? That's the way to protect data from overwriting.
Thanks

Re: Monthly job
Sure. Could you elaborate on your infrastructure and goals?
How much data do you backup and write to tape, what is the tape capacity, for how long do you want the backups to be protected from overwriting?

thanks a lot for your time and commitment

Re: Monthly job
You can choose Do not create, always continue using current media set option, so each subsequent backup session will write its backup set to the existing media set: it will append backup content to the content that was written to tape with a previous backup session.
If size of tape is much bigger, than amount of data written data protection is not required.
By the way, how many tapes do you have?
