Folks,
If I want to backup NAS/File share/Unstructured data backups to tape;
I have heard, although I couldn't find that in written form, that VBR uses the configuration database to store file and folder information when such data is written to tape. Is that still true?
Suppose we have a NAS with 500,000 files and folders. How much impact would that have on the config database? Will the overall performance of the database be affected? And will the size of the database increase significantly? Note that we have moved the VeeamBackup database to a "real" SQL server, so we are not hindered by the SQL Express size limit.
Kind regards,
PJ

Re: NAS backup to tape
Hello,
For Nas Backup to tape, you can use the calculator and the file to tape mode.
After adding your ressources and doing the estimate, you can have the estimate usage of the DB in the result details.

Re: NAS backup to tape
Thanks!
I have read the info about consumed instance licenses. For example, on our NAS we have a share containing just over 5 TB data, and the backup on disk consumes 10 instances.
If I want to write that data to tape using File to Tape, would that consume an additional 10 instances?
And what happens license wise, if I use a Backup to Tape job instead? Would that also consume an additional 10 instances? Or will it not consume any instances at all, since VBR backup files are being written to tape in this case?

Re: NAS backup to tape
If you are using backup to tape to send a copy of your NAS backups from your repos, this will not require an additional licence.
I suggested to use the file to tape part in the calculator because NAS backup to tape is acting like that, so need to be used when it comes to sizing for nas backup to tape.
Backup to tape in the calculator is only for images (Agents, VMs..). I hope my explanation is clear.
