VB&R does not recognize cleaning media

I have a similar issue. I have two cleaning tapes that are showing as backup tapes and not cleaning media. Any idea how to get these to be recognized correctly as cleaning media? When I run a catalog it shows the cleaning tape icon briefly but when the inventory process completes it switches to the backup tape icon.

Have a case 01994994 They've told me to contact the hardware manufacturer (Dell PowerVault 124T) to make sure the tape is marked as a cleaning tape. However, these tapes have worked in the past with our Symantec BE system.

It appears the only way to "mark" a tape as cleaning on the PowerVault is to enable Auto-Clean on the PV itself. We would prefer to disable PV auto-clean and let Veeam handle the scheduled cleanings.

We don't have a bardcode on our cleaning media. I wasn't aware that it was necessary? I did find a way that has made the software recognize the tape as cleaning media. I attempted to perform an erase media on the tapes, which looks like may have marked them as cleaning media. I will issue another catalog and see if they remain that way

we have a similar Problem after Upgrading from 9.0 to 9.5.0.823_Update1.
Our cleaning Tape (with Label) is in Media Pool "unrecognized".
When I remove it from Tape Library (Fujitsu LT 40 S2), I can "Remove from Catalog" by rightclick on it.

But when I put in the Cleaning Tape again, it is in Media Pool "unrecognized" again.

That's normal behavior, the tape is ok and will be used as cleaning cartridge when needed.

The cleaning tapes are located in the Unrecognized media pool.

I have similar issue with V&R 9.5.0.823. The cleaning tape is detected and listed under Unrecognized, but when it comes to a drive cleaning, the job displays a warning:

Automated drive cleaning is enabled in the tape library options. The library itself is on the HCL. I've created a case 02090494.

Unrecognized pool is a default location for cleaning media, so that should not be related to the warning you got. Do you use barcode labels for your tape media? Thanks.

We actually use barcodes.

It's actually in "Offline" state. When I right click on it, it has only "Remove from catalog" and "Properties" enabled. All the rest is greyed out. On the tape library web interface, the cleaning media shows as imported and present in the slot.

Try to rescan the library. Library should pick the cleaning media state and your issue will be resolved.

Unfortunately, this is not that simple. Rescan does not pick the cleaning tape even though I've imported it through the library web interface and sure it is in the slot. Out of curiosity I ran the "Catalog tapes" and "Inventory library" jobs, but they seem only to access regular media I/E Station Slots, not the cleaning media slot.

Well before posting here, I've already opened the case 02090494. So far, not much help from the support team. I only hope the 1st tier guy escalates the issue soon.
