Rev. Incrementel vs. Incremental vs. Tapecopyjob

Post by Reklov »

Hi Folks,

I'm a bit in trouble.

I had changed a backupjobsetting from reverse incremental to incremental. I decided to create a synthetic full every friday.
All looks fine. The backup was much faster and my Exchange DAG has more time for maintenance.

The retention was set to 60 days.

The backupjob have a secondary destination ( Tapejob ).

What I had not think about was, that all the .vbk's will backuped to tape and not only one ( with reverse incremental ). The capacity by my Tape ( 5.5 TB ) are reached.

I like copy only the last .vbk to Tape and not all available.
What can I do to solve this ? Must I remove all old .vbk's ( breaking the backupchain ) or do I have an other choice ?

Thanks for your thoughts
Regards

You should enable "process latest full backup chain only" checkbox. Thanks.

Great, thanks !

In case, I will turn back to incremental with no synthetic full, will the tapecopyjob create a new full out of the last full plus the increments or will it take just the last full without the increments ?

It will create a virtual full backup in accordance with the specified schedule. Typically the latest available restore point will be used as a source for virtual full backup. Thanks.
