schedule for specific type of backup tapes
hello
guys question about how to create best way settings for specific tapes schedule
1. one tape device with 2 library contains all 21 tapes 2,3tb each
2. every last day of month we want to do full backup only of last full backup of every jobs that we have
3. we have to archive all monthly full backups on tapes per 1 years
4. we have more tapes than it contains in library ( around 100 )
5. every 3 months ( 3 full backups every month ) will occure all tapes lack of space
6. every 3 months we want to take out all backuped tapes and replace it with new ones for next 3 months
7. after one year oldes tapes that will be inserted to library need to be able to be rewritable
anyone did something similar ? best solutions for it ?

Re: schedule for specific type of backup tapes
Hello,
and welcome to the forums.
1. Just for clarification: I assume 1 library with two tape drives is meant?
2. if you want to use the last existing full backup, then "backup to tape" with standard media pool needs to be used.
3. a backup to tape job scheduled to the last day of the month pointing to the standard media pool from step 2 would be the way to go
4. that's fine.
5. that's fine. tapes can be changed and the library needs to inventory after that
6. see 5
7. write protection is a setting in the media pool (linked in 2 / 3) - also parallel processing for the two tape drives (1)
hope that helps
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: schedule for specific type of backup tapes
if you have different locations, that could make sense. If you put everything in one place, then it might be unnecessary. It's just a "reminder" where tapes are located physically

Re: schedule for specific type of backup tapes
ok so no point to use it.
i just sow that for yearly archive backup regular setup for backup latest full is not working as i wanted.
we have DD6300 enviroment that are able to hold backups for 6 moths ( deduplication ) and the problem is that when backup to tape is created - it doing a latest ful backup at the end of the month
the problem is that we do not need to have 2 archives ( on tapes and dd6300 fulls )
so what it should works:
tapes are taking OLDEST full backup only ( because if dd6300 going to retain soon a 6 months old full backup ) we need to have archive this oldest full from 6 months old to tapes. otherwhise it is just tapes wasting as we have full backups from same time on dd6300 and tapes.
could not find any option to do oldest full backup to tapes. any clue how to configure it ?

Re: schedule for specific type of backup tapes
backup to tape is a copy of the currently existing restore points. it's redundancy to meet the 3-2-1 rule.
My feeling is, that you try to move / archive old restore points to tape. That functionality does not exist, because tape backup is used to create redundancy with Veeam.

yes thats what i want to do. sadly... as for us no point is to contain same restore points on both devices dd6300 and tapes when we want to do archive from tapes only for 1 year + monthly archives.

Re: schedule for specific type of backup tapes
we could thats its not the point of how our backup schedule would work.
local hdd retention 7 days
dd6300 retention 3 moths
tapes 1 year
making lower retention for do not change anything as dd6300 is specially for higher retantion, and tapes should be only for archives for very long retention
for me there is missing checkbox option next to "create only latest full backup" to "create only oldest full backup" in job configuration
