Hello,
I am looking to implement VTL using AWS.
My queries:
1. Is synthetic full backup possible? coz for us it does't make sense to copy full backups regularly over wire.
2. Can i use snowball to do initial seeding?
Any best practices /pitfalls?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Synthetic Full backup for AWS VTL
Hi Rishi.
Virtual full on tape (or synthesized full) is created from an incremental on disk, so it does not matter which library, standalone drive or VTL is used as a target. For the deployment take a look at this White Paper Veeam Backup & Replication using AWS VTL Gateway Deployment Guide - it should have most of the questions answered. Cheers!

It doesn't seem to be possible, as VTL doesn't support that. Thanks. Can i use snowball to do initial seeding?

Re: Synthetic Full backup for AWS VTL
I've come across a similar scenario.
We are currently performing reverse-incremental jobs that backup our VMs (running on ESXi) to tape each night.
We are in the process of implementing (a) Nutanix, which means our backups will now be forward-incremental and (b) an AWS VTL.
We want each physical tape and each AWS tape to be a full backup (so we aren't reliant on a chain of tapes to restore from).
If we perform "full" backups into a tape job, will a tape job on day 5 (5 days after the first full backup to disk, with days 2-5 being increments) backup only the original full backup from day 1, or will it create a synthetic full of days 1 + 2 +3 + 4 + 5?

Re: Synthetic Full backup for AWS VTL
You can enable forward forever incremental for backup job and instruct backup to tape job to create virtual full backup on Friday (assume it's day 5 in your backup schedule). This way each week tape job will create one full restore point. Thanks!
