Tape compressed or not

Post by andreas2012 »

Hi,

We have a new tape library with LTO 7, and on the tape box is say 6.0 TB native, and 15 TB compressed.
When imported to Veeam it say 5.5TB

So my question is then, If i copy 5.5 TB of raw data is the tape then full?, or will it automatically compress it ? So it will always take 15 TB ?

Thanks for reply

Veeam backups tend to be very compressed already so little or nothing to gain from hardware compression. Safest to assume that the "native capacity" (6-ish TB for LTO-7) is the usable capacity from Veeams perspective.

Some good explanation can be also found here; worth checking. Thanks!
