Tape Copy takes very long time
Hello,
I`m using B&R v7 on an Windows Server 2012. I created a copy to tape job for our data partition on the server.
I`m a bit confused, why the copy job takes such a long time.
Why is there such a long "idle time" within the copy process?!

Re: Tape Copy takes very long time
As per release notes, in the current version copying a variety of files to tape medias with “file to tape” job might, indeed, take some time. Though, please be aware that the current implementation is likely to be optimized in the next product versions.
Moreover, you must have been misguided by the any absence of graphical information in the middle of provided “throughput” statistics. It doesn’t mean that VB&R was idling during this period of time, instead, it was copying files of rather small size, so, the processing rate for them wasn’t shown. Once the VB&R had reached relatively big files, the processing rate started to be reflected again.
Thanks.

Re: Tape Copy takes very long time
As mentioned in the adjacent thread, the mechanism of files to tape job is revised seriously in the upcoming product version. Which means the performance you're currently seeing should be improved there. So, stay tuned!

Re: Tape Copy takes very long time
Thanks for your reply an your information.
As written, my post was just for information not to complain about it.
For my use case the performance is sufficient (at the moment). Comparing the both screenshots there already has been a great improvement in the last year.

Re: Tape Copy takes very long time
could you please tell me, if there will an Option in the new veeam v8 release, to configure copy to tape Jobs with the possibility to exclude subfolders from the copy Job?!
So for example it would be possible the create a copy to tape Job for a whole HDD-Partition of a Server and only exclude some subfolders, i don`t want to be copied...

Unfortunately no – the only similar option is to include files by type mask, but it is supported only in File to tape jobs.

Re: Tape Copy takes very long time
We do not use any file to tape Jobs in VEEAM. We only use the VM backup to disk and then copy the files from disk to tape.
