tape drive is due for routine cleaning

Post by ejenner »

Hi guys,

Is the routine cleaning for the tape drive set by Veeam or by the drive manufacturer? I'm having to clean the tape drive far too frequently and it's interrupting backup cycles. I'd like to extend the cleaning schedule so it doesn't come up as often.

"TapeDrive alert: The tape drive is due for routine cleaning:. Wait for the current operation to finish. Then use a cleaning cartridge. Check the tape drive user manual for device specific cleaning instructions."

Hello,
searching for "tape cleaning" in the user guide says that both is possible ;-)

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100

Best regards,
Hannes

By the looks of it the frequency isn't controlled through Veeam so not an issue for this forum. All Veeam seems to offer is the option to clean the drive automatically. The signal for when it has to be cleaned comes from the tape drive.

Correct, we don't have any control over tape cleaning procedure frequency (how often tape device will notify us about cleaning need) - it is managed solely by tape device itself. Thanks!
