Tape drive serial number?

Post by pshute »

If I look at the properties of my tape drive in Veeam, it lists the model of the drive. Is it possible for it to also display the serial number? This is to save me the trouble of pulling it out to physically check it.

No, it's the serial number of the drive itself we want, to check the warranty on it.

No, we only have one drive. If its serial number is accessible by software then it would be good to be able to see it in Veeam so we don't have to physically go and look at it.

Got it. I'll note an improvement request to display more information about the device in the device properties. Thank you!

+1. This would be helpful in identifying and troubleshooting which physical tape drive is going offline in my Veeam System. The symbolic names Tape0 and Tape1 seem to move between the physical drives as they disconnect.

Folks, we've added this functionality to tape library /drive properties to the upcoming v11. There are two serial values: one is library serial and another - manufacturer serial. The question to all of you - which one work the best for you? Thank you in advance!

I have no idea. Even the physical drive seems to have several serial numbers on it. I think give us everything you can get.

Thanks for adding this.

Looks like manufacturer serial number and device serial number are the same (except cases with partitioning) and since we have device serial number in our core logic - we will display it in the upcoming version.

For manufacturer serial number I've already noted an improvement request and will add it to the UI later. Thanks for the feedback!
