Tape export to mail slot on Quantum Superloader 3
Hi community,
we are using Veeam B&R 11.0.1 together with a Quantum Superloader 3 Tape library. Unfortunately the tape export to the mail slot does not work. The export button in “Tape Infrastructure > Libraries > Quantum .. > Media > Tape” is greyed out. Using the powershell export cmdlet leads to the error message “All I/E ports are full. Empty at least one port.”. But the Mail slot in the Superloader is free.
We are Using original Quantum device drivers (version 1.0.0.4) for the library.
Any suggestions how to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance and best regards
MJordan

Re: Tape export to mail slot on Quantum Superloader 3
You need to define the mail slots within Quantum Management for the specific partition that holds the Veeam data. I think by default all tape media places with even the IO slot are just given as normal tape slots to the library and you have to define how many slots you want to use as IO slots.
If you change the mail slot configuration, restart the tape server and restart the B&R Service. Likely you will find the IO slots then. If not, please open a support ticket and allow our team to analyze the logs.

Hi Andreas, thank you for your quick reply. Where can I define the mail slots? Is it a configuration I have to set in Veeam?

Hello MJordan,
looks like the Superloader 3 can not perfom the same configuration steps as the bigger tape libraries.
You need to speak with Quantum to check if there is a way to use the mailslot as an IO slot and how to configure this within the configuration interface.
I found various information through google that states that the mail slot can not be addressed over SCSI (that we and other backup software speak with the library) as an IO slot. If this is correct then you have to manually move tapes to the mail slot.

I checked with Quantum and this is their answer:
"The Superloader is not a tape library but a tape loader device.
There is no SCSI command available for loaders for import / export. This is only available with tape libraries. ( different device class)
So your assumption that this is not possible is right. "

Hi Andreas, thanks for your effort.
In this case we will have to move the tapes manually.
