Hello,
I am currently working on a design for a new backup solution.
The current solution is based on veeam and we want to keep this, we are currently still using several LTO-6 tapes. In the new solution we want everything on disk, but we still want to be able to restore from the tape (for old data if it still needs to be restored). this with a simple LTO-7 drive purely for recovery only.
Now I can build a new solution and read all the tape, but this is a time-consuming job. as it has 5 years on tape and must still be repairable for at least 5 years due to legal obligations. This concerns some PBs.
Is there a way to just do a tape import only from the old veeam environment to the new veeam server? (without including the whole old veeam configuration).
Or are there other methods to ensure that I can build a new environment and use the tapes (for recovery only)?
Thanks in advanced !

Re: Tape import in new server
Hi Pingu, welcome to the forums.
Without doing a Configuration Restore and restoring the tape catalog, you will need to catalog the individual tapes you need for restores.
I would say consider using the VeeamOne Tape Reports to get an inventory of your tapes (Backups on Tape and Tape GFS Backup Files reports may assist here), or keep a light version of the old VBR server running with the tape catalog intact, configure the new environment, and just look up which tapes you need; the Restore Wizard will tell you which tapes are needed for a given restore point, and you can just use that to know which to import/catalog on the fresh Veeam server, or just initiate the restores from the old server.

Re: Tape import in new server
Thanks for the fast reply and helping me out with some more scenario's.
will include it in the design and considerations. The chance that historical data will need to be restored is minimal and it saves a lot of time up front to read everything that we may not need.
