Tape insert needed - jobs not appending properly??
I have 3 File to Tape backup jobs. I have 4 LTO6 tapes in my HP Autoloader. This weekend, the last job stopped at 97% finished, and needed another tape to write the last 100GB.
BUT my tapes have the following capacity/free:
Tape1: 2.4TB/1.4TB
Tape2: 2.4TB/112.4GB
Tape3: 2.4TB/94.2GB
Tape4: 2.4TB/1.6TB
I looked all over for any "Append" settings but could not find anything along those lines. Why wouldn't the job just write the last 100GB to one of the tapes with over 1TB free?

You might mark them as protected I guess.
I would also suggest to enable Do not create, always continue using current media set option to avoid situations like this one.
Thanks!

Could you tell us how media set creation and overwrite protection settings look like? Thanks.

Automatically create new media set is at noon everyday. Protect data is set to 3 weeks.

In this case, it seems that the said tapes are still under retention period (3 weeks) and thus cannot be overwritten. And since these cassettes belong to different mediasets, data cannot be appended to them. Thanks.

Ok, so my tapes are written to on Saturday night and on into Sunday afternoon. Should I create a media set on Saturday mornings and leave the overwrite protection period set to 3 weeks? I only write to tape on the weekends.

It will work if the Saturday night backup and on into Sunday afternoon one can be stored on a single tape.
What is the size of one backup?

Do you have all 3 jobs running weekly? If so, looks like you need to overwrite the tapes more often.
