Tape job fails if tapes in changer are full

Post by remko.de.koning » May 02, 2018 7:14 am

Hi,

We basically have two kinds of tape jobs.

Low-Retention
These jobs are just for air-gap backups. The tapes last for about 2-3 weeks before they are recycled.

High-Retention
These jobs are for longer storage

The tape library (HP command View 1/8 G2 Autoloader) holds both kinds of tape. 8 tapes in total.
When one of the media pool tapes are full, it pauses the backup job until new tapes are loaded.
When the tapes are loaded, Veeam continues the backup job.

So far so good, but any pending jobs of the other media pools are cancelled as soon as the tapes in the tape library are changed with the error "No Tape Libraries are online"
I am trying to understand why. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

Tape job waits for a media to be inserted if your media pool has no free tapes left.

Can you elaborate how you are loading media to your library? Thanks.

Can you elaborate how you are loading media to your library? Thanks.
In the "operations" section of the tape library is an eject "left" or "right" option (Two magazines).
When the magazine is ejected the library comes offline for a few minutes and then it comes back online.
The job that was currently running continues after this while the jobs for the other media pool fails.

Should I initiate an eject somewhere from Veeam?
