Tape library state is inconsistent
When I inventory my tapes after changing them out I am some point start getting the following message in the log / job status window looping over and over again:
"Tape library is inconsistent: performing rescan"
This just keep looping endlessly with each line having a 4 second duration. I can see a Tape libraries discovery task that keeps starting too.
I end up having to crash out (reboot) the server to recover.
Edit: To clarify it has a problem when a tape with a barcode is removed and replaced by a tape in that same slot with no barcode. Seems like a bug and it can't handle it!

Re: Tape library state is inconsistent
Hello o_jay,
Have you tried to cancel the inventory and perform rescan of the entire library instead? Thanks.

Re: Tape library state is inconsistent
I have opened a case with support. Also, and may be related, Any attempt now to start the file to tape job again begins building the file tree and then a while later 6 tempdb files on the SQL server beging to start growing rapidly, all the same size and consume all the disk space on the SQL server volume (this is a 100GB volume and running SQL 2016 Standard.

Hi o_jay. Thanks for reporting. The issue is known and the private fix is available. Please ask your support engineer to refer to the case #02530713 to obtain the fix.

Re: Tape library state is inconsistent
Thanks lyapkost I will do that. I was going to just try using all barcodes for everything which should also resolve the issue but I might get the fix anyway.
Just to update too on the other issue with the fast growing multiple tempdb file issues on my SQL server when running my large File to Tape job. It seems the job was corrupted somehow. I created another job with the exact same settings and the new job ran fine, no tempdb file use/growth at all so that is a good result. So all in all both my issues are resolved.

Re: Tape library state is inconsistent
We asked your support engineer to apply fixes for both issues (the one with file to tape job increases file enumeration speed in incremental job runs and prevents tempdb growth). Thank you.

Re: Tape library state is inconsistent
Thanks. Good to hear these are known issues and there are fixes. It is however quite disappointing that my support engineer did not know about these!

Re: Tape library state is inconsistent
Hello Cosme,
The original issue was addressed long ago and should be incorporated to all latest version of Veeam B&R. Can you please clarify what version are you using? Thanks!
