Re: Tape positioning error

Post by Mark L »

I got the fix from support and tape jobs ran like expected, thanks.

I noticed that the V11 cumulative patch was released today (https://www.veeam.com/kb4126) but I don't see any mention of the tape issue. Do you know whether those of us affected are good to install the patch, or will that bring back the issue?

The fix for this issue is included in the cumulative patch, will ask the team to list it in the KB article. Thanks for the feedback Mark!

Another "me too" post - Case #04833197

MSL2024, added new tapes yesterday as starting getting the odd fail on the current ones that are used for daily incrementals.

Tape positioning error. Kind of pleased to see it's a known error - in other words i didn't break it!

Hi Dima P.

After I posted my reply I saw page 2 and that the CU was available - so once it's finished its current job I will apply that and report back. Hopefully I will be able to close the ticket then.

Case: 04821497

I have this issue reappearing again. After installing the CU, I still had the issue and I had to manually format 11 tapes using HPE LTT. Now added 20 brand new tapes and is starting happen again.
What is the solution? The case was archived as I thought that won't ever happen again, but my assumption was false.

Scream,
Based on the investigation the cumulative path somehow was not installed correctly. I do see that now everything should be back to normal and all the issues with HPE library should be addressed. Let us know if you need any further assistance!

For all newcomers - please apply the latest patch to address the Tape positioning issue.

Hi Peter.

Please check that on a tape server the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Veeam\Backup Transport\x64\VeeamAgent.exe has md5 checksum 5a8d8d3b8ff8971fb6dc64cadb34bfc4 or 881480f77d31ad0bf97e9fd55d8d87a2. If it has a different checksum, it means that it was not properly updated after the patch installation. In this case you need to uninstall Veeam Backup Transport from the tape server (Control Panel - Uninstall a program) and then go to the tape server properties on VBR (Backup Infrastructure - Managed servers node), click Next-Next-Next to reinstall the transport again.

Hi lyapkost, thank you for the reply.
The MD5 checksum was correct, so it should work I assume. I double checked if the drive itself is faulty - that seems not the case.
I'm a bit lost.

[MERGED] How to relable a barcode label?

Post by nunciate »

I am getting a Tape positioning error: The end-of-data marker was reached during an operation when I try backups.
I have tapes in prod that I no longer use there and send them to DR. I had data on those tapes so I did a quick erase in my prod library.

I then put new labels on the tapes and sent them to DR since we use a different numbering system out there.

Maybe I messed up by erasing them before I relabeled them? I tried quick and long erase operations in DR but get the same issue.

Anyone hear of such a thing?
