we moved veeam 11 over to a new server, with new tape drive. went from ultirum 7 to 8. tapes are all 7.
I have verified that I can restore files from tapes that were backed up on the OLD server, but if I try to WRITE to those tapes from the new server it fails. cannot inventory or catalog them either.
but if I first format the tape, I can then inventory, catalog, and backup to the tape on the new server.
so what do I need to do so I dont have to format each tape? I know there must be something I am missing.

Re: tape question after moving to new server
Hi Gary
If you can restore file from the old tapes with the new server, catalog operation must already have worked. Without cataloging, a new server doesn‘t know what‘s on the tapes.
Is the Mediaset on the tapes still write protected or not expired yet? That could be a reason why they are not writable by the new server.
If you want to have a exact answer, please open a support case. A support engineer can take a look at the logs and tell you what‘s happening.
Best,
Fabian
