Hello,
I have requirement to make retention policy as shown below
Yearly : 5
Monthly : 12
Daily incremental : 365
Can that scenario full fill if we use tape?

Re: Tape Retention
Hi Handian,
Sure, with our GFS Media Pools, just enable the desired media sets (e.g., Daily, Monthly, Yearly), and add the source jobs to the Tape job, and it will tape-out your backups as you're expecting. The elder media sets (weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly) will have a full written to tape as described in the "How it works" section.
Give the User Guide a read, and setting it up should be pretty quick and easy.

Re: Tape Retention
Hello David,
So with above retention scenario is my understanding below is right or not?
Let say 1st monthly full backup taken on 1st Jan, then from 2 to 31 Jan is incremental.
1st Feb will 2nd full backup, then from 2 to 28 Feb is incremental.
The incremental from 2 and next on Feb is refering to which full backup, full backup on Jan or Feb?

Re: Tape Retention
Hi Handian,
I'm not quite sure I get the schema you're describing, but if you could, check the "How it works" Section of the Tape GFS User Guide page I linked; The Tape GFS job will backup the incremental points as they are, and for the elder media sets, depending on what it finds as the most recent eligible point when it runs, it will either copy an existing full backup or create a Virtual Full directly on the tape. So it will ensure you have proper GFS retention regardless of what it finds that day.
