TapeGFSBackupWaitTimeout doesnt work

Hey,

our GFS tape Job runs every sunday at 00:00 but at this time the backup job from saturday (we cant schedule it earlier) is still running.

Than he reschedule it 24h later but this is a bit "too" late.

We've found an registry key (HKEY_LOCA_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\TapeGFSBackupWaitTimeout) that should be able to set a own value for that reschedule.

We set it to 720 (HEX Value) and restarted the Veeam Server.

But it didnt work so he started the tape job again 24h later.

Is it bugged or did I something wrong?

Hello and welcome to the community forums Florian,

EDIT: The mentioned registry key instructs GFS tape job to wait more that 24 hours for new restore point instead of creating a full backup from the restore point that already exists on the disk. 720 minutes = 12 hours, so that equals the default value - try to adjust it to a higher value and that should do the trick. correct me please, but for me 720/60 = 12?

I dont will to wait "more" than 24h. I will, that he only wait 12h to check again for new restore points. =)

You are right that's 12 hours since the session start (... and another coffee will fix my math skills )

The job session itself waits for a new restore points being created till the end of the day, so can you please clarify how tape job schedule is configured? Thanks!

It's the default for GFS tape job:
"Sunday" for Weekly and for everything else "First Sunday of..."

I would like to specify the time when he will start but thats not possible.
The Backup itself starts on saturday at 20pm and runs to about 3am on sunday.

So he check at 0am for a new restore point and wont find one because the backup job is still running.
Than he reschedule the tape job for 24h later (so my understanding?).

Now I will force him to reschedule the tape job about 12am on sunday (for example).

Problem here is that "if" the job is running into trouble, we lose much time to get the backup to tape.

Understood, thank you! Is it possible to install the latest version if Veeam B&R 9.5 U4b? We've added the ability to set the start time for the GFS tape job, so I believe the problem should go away once you set the Perform GFS daily scan at the desired time. Cheers!

Yep. I installed the Update 4b with the new Settings and now the Hotfix KB2981 (don't know why the zip files name is kb2983 ^^) is installed, too.

Hi Dima,

worked like a charm.

Did set the start at 8am on sunday and it was done in the night on Monday 1am. Now we are much more flexible for the future.
