Unable to add tapes from free pool to GFS pool
Procedural question here ...
Cu has a small IBM (Dell EMC) tape library with 2 ea. LTO8 tape drives. Veeam inventoried the new LTO-8 tapes tapes and put them in the free pool. The catch? Cu only had LTO6 (L6 suffix) barcode labels on hand, so we used them.
Created GFS media pool and tape copy job. I cannot seem to manually add tapes from the free pool to the GFS pool.
The job seems equally incapable of automatically adding free media on demand and just hangs saying it needs a tape.
But we clearly have tapes in the free pool. And they are definitely LTO-8 cartridges. Could the L6 barcode suffix cause Veeam to think that they are LTO-6 cartridges thus incompatible with LTO-8 drives? Or have I likely committed some other configuration or procedural faux pas?
TIA

Hello,
looks strange. Do you have a case number including logs for that behavior?
Thanks,
Hannes

Hi Jim,
Can you please check the settings under GFS Media Set > Advanced? Possibly all tapes are already assigned to the GFS media sets.

Hrm, do my eyes deceive me or are your LTO8 Tapes showing as WORM:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... worm-tapes
Are they really WORM or are they regular tapes? Else looks like something is really not right there.

Harvey got it! You cannot add regulars tapes to WORM media pool (visa versa), so that might be the root cause.

Blue vs. Yellow icons. Son of a gun. Not entirely sure how fresh tapes that were inserted into the library then scanned, wound up labeled as worm in the free pool. I'm no longer onsite but will pass this info along to the cu. I can have a remote session with them next week, too. If problems continue, we will open a support case. My apologies for not doing so before now.
