Unknown MTF Writer
Hi,
Running latest version of Veeam (8.0.0.917).
I get the same error as decribed in http://www.veeam.com/kb1967
This fix only works for 8.0.0.817, how do i solve this in .917 ?
I need to clear the tapes for usage in Veeam, and yes tapes has been used by symantec backup exec Before.

Jorgen,
As far as I know the said fix should be included into patch 1, so kindly contact the support team and post the case id to this thread if possible, I will ask the QA to double-check. Thank you in advance.

Support Answer:
"Unfortunately, the only possible solution is to perform erase of these tapes with native HP Tools"
This is bad, i will need to manually shutdown veeam services, Open HP LTT (which will lock the drive) then insert Tape 1 , do a Quick Erase, Shutdown HP LTT start Veeam Services
rescan tape drive since it lost the Connection to the Tape Unit when HP LTT used it, run Tape inventory and this i need to do every day in 2 weeks since the Customer Changes tape once a day. And Clearing 2 weeks of tapes in one batch isn't a good option since we then looses 2 weeks of backup history if we need something back.
A simple powershell script just erasing the Tape and scheduling this Before the Tape Backup Job should just solved this issue.

Jorgen,
I guess it is related to the media block size set by third party software you used before. Thank you for posting the resolution.

Re: Unknown MTF Writer
Is there any hope of getting Veeam to allow a force inventory or a format tape option to overwrite tapes that were written by a third party? If you have hundred of tapes this manual process could get old fast...

Re: Unknown MTF Writer
Do you mean automatically overwriting tapes written by 3-party software? If so, kindly, take a look at this discussion whether the idea is discussed in more details. Thanks.
