Thanks for the feedback. Indeed for now you need to use regular media pool for daily tape backups.
We are going to implement the feature of daily backups in GFS media pool in future versions.

Hi,

Is there any update in the parallel processing feature? GFS is a nice feature that adds convenience over normal media pools. Giving it a performance burden over normal media pools, when obviously the parallel processing mechanism is already tried and tested is most frustrating. Also, when using per vm files, better tape job error handling would be welcome.... If I have a tape copy job (GFS or not) that includes 5 vms and the job fails... Surely we should be able to identify with VM we were copying to tape at the time, rather than ditching the whole copy set?

My feature request is to enable parallel tape processing for GFS media pools. In this case, one GFS tape backup job, can use two tape drives simultaneously.

Our weekly GFS tape backup jobs need a lot of time to complete. Because of this time-consuming tape backup jobs, we have two tape drives. It would save more time, if we could combine those two drives, in one tape job. Unfortunately, that is not possible at this moment. That's why we have two GFS tape jobs; one for each tape drive. How many years are you going to wait before release a *basic* functionality like this ?

I love veeam backup product (mainly because of advanced functions like application item restore) but sometimes I feel like you're missing really basic backup software stuff, like direct backup VM to tape, use multiple LTO drives, etc...

3a is more a platform support update (not counting multiple bug fixes), so, no new features have been introduced.

As to your request, it's in the "short-term" bucket (features that should be implemented in foreseeable future) .

Wanted to bump this thread up and share the good new with all of you. As you may know Veeam B&R 9.5 Update 4 went live and it has the most demanded GFS Media Pool improvements included:

1. Parallel processing for GFS media pools (also keep in mind that library failover was completely reworked, so in addition to parallel processing you can write data to multiple tape libraries at the same time).
2. Ability to configure daily media set with GFS media pool for incremental backups.
3. Option to specify exact start time for GFS tape backup jobs.
