Hello, since a couple of weeks, we had one LTO7-media with a barcode (let's say TT0001L7) residing in Retired area under Media Pools of Tape Infrastructure. Instead of erasing the retired media and deleting it from offline media, we removed TT0001L7 from the library and inserted a new LTO7-media with the same barcode label.
Erasing TT0001L7 was not possible, moving it to a new location was not possible and deleting it from the tape catalog wasn't possible as well, as possibly the tape header was different.
So, we had to re-insert the former defective TT0001L7 to the tape-library again, we could then successfully erase the defective media and finally remove it from the tape catalog. Then we removed the defective TT0001L7 physically from the tape-library and re-inserted the new TT0001L7, which was placed into Unrecognized media again. Done!
Really, that's not very comfortable. Can this be improved or do we need to handle Retired media differently? Can retired media, which has been physically removed from the tape library and possibly put into garbage, be removed from the tape catalog, without being re-inserted?
Best regards,
Didi7

Hi Didi7.
Makes total sense, thanks for sharing. I'll pass it to the tape team. Cheers!
