Veeam Data Archiving
Hi Guys,
We currently use Symantec Enterprise Vault as a File System Data Archiving solution. We use Veeam to backup each of our virtual servers. Do Veeam have any plans to include File Server Data Archiving into their product? Ideally we would like one solution for both data backup and archiving, as Veeam is our backup solution of choice, it would be nice it was included in the package. I see that CommVault have done this already.
Regards John

Hi, John, you're interested in kind of vault functionality, right? If so, we're planning to add it in one of the next product versions.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Veeam Data Archiving
HI Vladimir, Yes kind of. I am referring to functionality where you can tell the software to look at a File share, set criteria to say, if the files have not been accessed for xxx number of days, move the file to a different location, but leave a stub in its place, so the user can retrieve the file at a later date if they need it. Typically moving data from Primary storage to cheaper storage, freeing up primary storage space. The same as Symantec Enterprise Vault does.
If you to intend to add this functionality, do you know if it will be in the next major release? As we plan to purchase an Archiving solution in the next 12 months. If it is to be included in Veeam we may wait until it is released.
Regards John

We're planing both to improve performance of file to tape jobs and to introduce "vault" functionality in one of the next releases. Vault is kind of off-site location to which you take the tapes, once the data is written to them.If you to intend to add this functionality, do you know if it will be in the next major release?
However, it doesn't look like something you're after.
Thanks.

Yes, I think John is referring to archiving of files instead of archiving of backups. I also think this should be an interesting funcionality to add to veeam (even though it may require some kind of agent in the vm). Some backup programs of the competition already have this funcionality incorporated, for example Commvault simpana Onepass.v.Eremin wrote: We're planing both to improve performance of file to tape jobs and to introduce "vault" functionality in one of the next releases. Re: Veeam Data Archiving
With version 8 you can archive files to tape mediums, using files to tape job, and take the written mediums offsite ("vault"). It's still not the functionality the John requested, though. Thanks.
