Veeam for Large NAS Backups
I have an EMC Isilon that i would potentially backup quarterly to tape. Do you think Veeam could handle this? Its about 300TB of data. it has 10GB Ethernet connections
i know NDMP is the routine way to backup this quantity of data, but i'm trying to keep this all as simple as possible so i'm avoiding all of that if possible.
I would potentially present a NFS or CIFS share to veeam.
Would it be able to go file file share directly to tape?
Does it multi stream or would it go file by file?
thanks
Gd

Yes, with File to Tape jobs.gdavid16 wrote:Would it be able to go file file share directly to tape?
It is a single stream per media pool, so you can achieve paralleling with multiple File to Tape jobs pointed to different media pools. And in, v9 you will be able to do that even with the single media pool.gdavid16 wrote:Does it multi stream or would it go file by file?

Thanks, good to know. So the parallel transfers that will run (in v9) will be a mapping per tape drive in a single media pool? or it will try to fetch multiple files at once even with a single tape drive?

You mean to have simultaneous multi files writing with a single drive?

Tape jobs are still targeting media pools but instead of locking the media pool completely, tape job will lock only the needed drive and whenever you have an available drive in the library it could be used even within the one media pool.So the parallel transfers that will run (in v9) will be a mapping per tape drive in a single media pool? or it will try to fetch multiple files at once even with a single tape drive?
It will work only for backup to tape jobs. If needed you can enable “splitting source chains between multiple drives” option.or it will try to fetch multiple files at once even with a single tape drive?

So you can back an EMC Isilon up with Veeam? If you can, is there documentation on how to do this?

Is it configured as a share? If so, create a files to tape job, selecting a share as its source. Thanks.
