VMs -> Repository -> Specific VMs to Tape
Hi,
after some confusion with the Tape Backups and NetApp-Snapshots i finally managed it to back my Volumes (NFS and LUN) to an Scale-Out Repository.
I created a Job for each Volume we are using, and there also an secondary target -> Snapshot on my NetApp.
So we have an daily Backup on the Storage (SnapShot) and another, with an longer retention time, in an Repository (its also on another storage)
in the last step we would like to backup some Machines to Tape.
They are all in the Repository, so how can i tell Veeam to backup just some of them to Tape?
I just can select the whole repository, or a whole Job?
Best Regards
Novae

Hi Novae,
If I got it right, you want to choose a few VMs contained in the regular backup chains you've got in the repository? Thanks!

Re: VMs -> Repository -> Specific VMs to Tape
You cannot backup particular VMs to tape, unless you use combination of per-VM backup chain and file to tape job.
So, in your case available tape options are:
- Backup repository as a whole
- Backup particular job
Thanks.

But you already have this backup chain on disk, what doubled space are you concerned with? Thanks. So, i have to double my used storage, and transfertime for those maschines to backup those to tape?

Re: VMs -> Repository -> Specific VMs to Tape
Maybe i have some problems on understand this.
Right now i have multiple jobs like this:
daily_storage1
Source: NFS_Storage_1 attached to vCenter
On NFS_Storage_1 placed VMs
Machine1
Machine2
Machine3
....
Machine20
Target: Scaleout Repository
Secondary target: NetApp Snapshot
So where do i have to place the Backup2Tape job to Backup eg: Maschine 2-5 to Tape from this Backup chain?

Re: VMs -> Repository -> Specific VMs to Tape
Source: Daily_storage1 job
Target: Media Pool created on your tape device
Since you're not using per-VM backup chain, your best option is to archive daily_storage1 backup job as a whole. To do that create a backup to tape job and select the daily_storage1 job as its source.
Thanks.

Re: VMs -> Repository -> Specific VMs to Tape
OK, so i'll have ~2TB on tape for some 60GB machines :-/
I think i'll use another Repository for my Tapebackups
because i don't want to backup 36 TB on tape when i only need to backup 16TB in VMs...
Maybe that would be an nice Feature Request:
The possibility to Backup specific VMs from Repository to Tape

Re: VMs -> Repository -> Specific VMs to Tape
Backup to tape job operates with backups rather than with VMs,so you can archive either backups or repository where those backups reside. But thank you for the feature request, anyway; much appreciated.
