Want a backup job to copy each Sunday backup to tape

Hi,

Currently, I have a daily full backup job (30 backups per month) for a server "Server A".

On last Sunday of each month, I want a job to copy each Sunday backup for "Server A" to tape.

i.e. Copy backup of 1st - 4th Sunday (only 4 backups) to tape only.

How can I configure the backup job ?

You should:

- create a backup to tape job
- make copy full backups only
- enable "copy only latest chain" option
- and make it run on weekly basis (otherwise, with monthly schedule in place the whole scenario wouldn't work)

Should I:

1) Create a backup job to storage (daily full)
2) Create a backup job to tape (copy only latest chain) << It will backup "latest Sunday" bakcup to tape ?
3) Schedule on "Sunday"

And I want to backup this server to a GFS tape. But I couldn't schedule for each week

It will, as long as you schedule it to run after backup job's end.

Could you elaborate on that? I thought you were going to stick to simple backup to tape job, not GFS one.

For my situation,

- I want a backup job for weekly Sunday to tape >> You told me create "latest chain"

- But I want those backup to a GFS tape >> Since I have a a GFS tape for monthly servers backup (last monthly Sunday)

Is possible to do this ?

Here is current GFS coniguration
- Weekly: 0 weeks
- Monthly: 12 months
- Quarterly: 3 quarters
- Yearly: 1 years

Or I need to enable weekly for GFS, but it will backup weekly for all servers (not only the server I want weekly) to GFS tape ?

The scenario will work with GFS backup to tape job as well, but weekly schedule will also be needed. Without it the GFS will synthesize only 1 restore point per month (not 4, as you want to). Thanks.

Server A: Weekly per Sunday
Server B / C / D: Last Sunday

Should I

- Create a non-GFS pool for Servers A-D
- Server A (Schedule on Sunday) >> Run every Sunday to tape ?
- Server B-D (Schedule on last Sunday)

To same meida pool tape ?

The same media pool can be used for weekly and monthly jobs, though, jobs will leverage different tapes. Thanks.

I have created a GFS pool for Weekly backup

With "Weekly media set overtwite protection period = 1 week", I can't use same tape weekly.

Is possible to configure to use same tape for weekly backup in each month ?

e.g. tape 1 for weekly in JAN, tape 2 for FEB, tape 3 for MAR, etc.....

I'm slightly confused, as previously you've talked about usage of simple non-GFS media pool.

Is possible to configure to use same tape for weekly backup in each month ?

Enable "append backup files to incomplete tapes" option in the settings of weekly GFS media set, also set 4 as weekly protection period and finally make backup to tape job export tapes on monthly basis.
