Beta 2 Veeamsnap build fails on archlinux

Post by Isotop7 »

Hello guys,

i want to use VAL on my archlinux based machine. I converted the deb package with debtap but veeamsnap fails to install with dkms.

I uploaded the logs of the failed build process here:

http://hastebin.com/urowokizex.cs

Kernel headers are installed, kernel version is 4.8.4. The same problem occurs if I cd to veeamsnaps src folder and run "make all" there.

Thanks in advance for any input and keep up the good work!

Hi,

As I can see from the log the error occurs because the BIO_MAX_SECTORS macros is missing (blk_redirect_part function uses it). The community decided to remove it so linux kernel does not contain it anymore starting v4.8. You can either downgrade to v4.7, or tweak your kernel on your own, or wait for our team to patch the module, they constantly check the module for compatibility with the latest kernel version so GA release will provide full support of the most recent kernels.

Thanks for the heads up!

Hi,

thank you for your response.

Tweaking my kernel would me to get the 4.8.4 src and reenable the macro?
Is there some kind of milestone overview for Beta 3?

I would not recommend to mess with the kernel sources on the live system unless you know exactly what you're doing. Adding/removing components affects the system as a whole so if you're really into trying then please contact the community to get assistance on that.

Beta3 is not planned, GA version will be released this year.

Thanks
