Hello everyone, I wanted to know if with the agent it is possible to clone the disk of the physical machine and then do a restore.
Is it possible to create an iso?

Re: Use Agent for clone a disk
Hi Massimiliano
I split your topic from the other one. FastClone in the other topic is a feature on how to store spaceless synthentic fulls on reFS disks.
Your question is about Volume backup and restore with the Veeam Agent.
You can use our Agent to create a backup of your volumes/disks. And you can use it to restore the volume to the same or other hardware.
The Recovery media can be created, but it is only used for a restore of the machine/volumes.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=50
Can you tell me more about your goal? Is it just a restore to a new machine or do you have another scenario (machine deployment?)?
Thanks
Fabian

Re: Use Agent for clone a disk
my goal is to make an image of the physical server, and not to make a level backup of the server disk data.

Re: Use Agent for clone a disk
If you're asking if Veeam Agent can create an ISO of your physical server, then no.
Our Veeam Agent create backups. The backup of your server will be stored in a VBK (fullbackup) and VIB (inkremental) files on a USB disk or better on a Veeam Backup & Replication repository. If you need to recover your server, you can use the recovery media to restore the entire server from this backup files.
Thanks
Fabian

so if one wants to restore the physical server, he must reinstall the operating system and then restore the data via backup.
It is a level backup file

Re: Use Agent for clone a disk
No, he doesn‘t have to. You can create entire computer or volume level backups. Which are image level backups, not file level.
I provided a link to the recovery media in my first comment. You can use the recovery media to restore a server without installing the operating system first.
Also please see this guide. It explains every step on how to restore a physical server (for windows):

Thanks

Re: Use Agent for clone a disk
Great, so by doing veeam recovery media I can restore the entire physical server including the operating system.

Yes.
1. Create backups with mode entire computer: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=50
2. Use the recovery media to restore your server when required:

Re: Use Agent for clone a disk
Sorry to hijack this thread but it’s close to what I’m looking for. I have one external usb hard disk that has both recovery media and an “entire computer” backup of my PC. I will soon build a new pc and I was wondering if I can do bare metal recovery using only this one usb drive. The example in documentation restores from a network backup. So I wanted to make sure it is possible. And how is the different drivers situation on a new machine gets handled when doing bare metal recovery of entire computer?

Re: Use Agent for clone a disk
Hi
Yes, you can also restore from a USB hard disk.
In the step "backup location", choose local storage and browse to the backup file on the connected USB hard disk.
All drivers included in the recovery media are automatically loaded to the recovered OS. Windows has some generic drivers which works most of the time.
But sometimes drivers for storage adapters or network have to be provided. If disks and network cards are not recognized by the recovery media, you can provide the driver on two locations:
- Add the drivers of the new machine when you create the recovery media: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=50
- When you do the restore:
---> Network driver: At the place you configure the network settings: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=50
---> Storage adapter driver: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=50
After you booted the new machine for the first time after the restore, it's possible that additional drivers must be installed. You can check the device manager of your windows OS to check if any drivers are missing. Some may be downloaded automatically per windows updates.
Thanks
Fabian

Re: Use Agent for clone a disk
Some years ago I had 20 identical physical machines and used the veeam agent for deploying the same OS plus applications and settings. It worked perfect without any issues, you just have to boot from the recovery ISO and then trigger the bare metal restore. It's not a full clone as if you would write your source disk to your target disk 1:1, but eventually you won't really recognize any difference...

the only feature that interests me is Bare Metal Recovery , the backup data will be found on the veeam repository.
Can I use recovery media on different physical computers? since the iso will be on the veeam repository?

Re: Use Agent for clone a disk
yes, go to your backups, do a right-click and choose "create recovery media". there you can generate an ISO or even a bootable (usb) medium where you'd start the recovery process from.
