Agent - upgrade to B&R U4a

Post by GianlucaCroci »

Hello,
we've B&R U3a and we want to upgrade to the U4a.
I know that we've to do it in 2 steps. Before to U4 and than to U4a.
The problem is the Agents, because we've few Physical Servers that now they've the Agent v.2
For example two Servers are DC and others two are Exhcnage. We can't reboot them when we want...
What we can do, because when installed the U4a we will not be able to save these machines until we've installed the new Agent and we will not have restarted them (estimated time for all Servers is a week).
Thanks fot your help

Hello Gianluca,

You can install U4a on top of U3 without the need to install U4. Cheers!

Hi Dmitry,
thank's a lot. This is a good info.
But my problem is the Agent. Because we can't upgrade all the Servers, and above all we cannot restart them immediately.
Thank's again

Gianluca,

Uncheck 'update agents automatically' and 'reboot whenever it's required' options in the protection group settings - that would prevent agents from being updated automatically. When it's done you can install U4a and then update your agents manually (reboot might be required indeed, so I'd agree that agent update must be planned for non production hours).

Thank's Dmitry. OK, your first step I'll do certainly.

My question is if I update the Server, can I still save a Server with the old Agent?

And second one... In the first installation of the Agent on the Server, however, I had seen that it isn't loaded, and therefore I can't save, as long as the Server isn't restarted.
Therefore if I install the agent today and restart the server on Saturday, I'll not have the evening save for 3 nights.

Hello Gianluca,

Sorry for keeping silence.
My question is if I update the Server, can I still save a Server with the old Agent?
Yes, it should be possible to continue backup without updating the agent.
In the first installation of the Agent on the Server, however, I had seen that it isn't loaded, and therefore I can't save, as long as the Server isn't restarted.
Reboot indeed might be required. Kindly, check this post for more details.

Hello Dmitry,
thank's a lot, and don't worry, no problem for the silence :-)

That's a good news, because few server are used H24 and we can't restart them when we want, but we need to backup them each day.

Thank's again.
Kind regards
