UI: Empty control panel issue
Case ID: 02172939
Hello,
I am on the latest build of Windows 10 Build 1703. Its a clean install.
I tried to configure a backup on Veeam Agent (2.0.0.200) but after reaching to the last point "Summary" and I click "Finish" nothing happens. The Control panel its still empty "Backup settings are not configured" . Now If I check the "Run the job when I click Finish" I can see that the backup has started and the .vbk is being created but again the Control Panel is still empty "Backup settings are not configured".
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: UI: Empty control panel issue
Veeam support told me through ticket that this is a Windows 10 issue with Culture settings.
My installation of Windows 10 was clean and default language was English United States. Then I switched it to Greek and most probably this cause Veeam to stop working. Switching back to English does not solve it. Support informed me that I had to reinstall OS. no way.

Hi Neo,
First: Welcome to the forums
I understand that you don't want to reinstall the OS. From what I can see, it looks like the windows 10 with culture settings is something that we need to investigate and see if we can solve this. Did your case got escalated?
Thanks
Mike

Hello Mike,
Thanks for answering. No it wasn't escalated they just informed me that I need to reinstall OS.
Do you know by any chance if and when a new release will fix this issue?
Thanks

Re: UI: Empty control panel issue
Hi, I upgraded Veeam Endpoint from 1.5 to Agent 2.0.0.700 (Free edition) on some PCs in the last few days without issue.
But now I installed a fresh 2.0.0.700 on a new laptop with clean Win 10 Pro Creator's Update US-English with German keyboard and installed other software like Office 2016 etc.
Veeam worked fine for a while, I did some backups to my VBR repository, but today suddenly (I don't know for what reason) I started to see the Backup settings are not configured problem in the tray icon. Double-clicking the icon makes Veeam scan and detect repositories etc. then I see all the settings, they are correct, I can modify them etc. but after clicking Finish nothing works: I can't run a backup and the "Backup settings are not configured" is still there. Reinstall of Veeam with deleting the Veeam folder in Program Files did not help.
I have not installed language packs or similar, just a few additional languages and keyboards. Not sure if this might be a problem...
Is there maybe a utility to clean all registry from old Veeam settings so I can start from scratch?

Re: UI: Empty control panel issue
Ok Dima, I have opened a case.
BTW, I also tried reinstalling the 3 SQL components and even resetting the database as described here
https://tinkertry.com/veeam-endpoint-ba ... base-reset
but without success...
And I see more people are having this strange problem:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Veeam/comments ... _settings/
I should have probably stayed with v1.5...

Re: UI: Empty control panel issue
Thanks to Veeam support here is the solution:
https://www.veeam.com/kb2302
Actually we are here in Germany but on that particular notebook I needed an English Windows 10 Pro.
So with Microsoft's media creation tool I created an English (United States) USB installation stick and during install I selected English (United States) for Language but of course German for time and currency format and that ended up in some strange English (Germany) format in Windows region settings. I didn't know such a thing exists...
The other strange thing is that Veeam Agent 2.0 worked ok first, but then (maybe I changed some input languages?) or for whatever reason, the error suddenly appeared.
I think the error will not appear on a fully German Windows...

Hi Memorx,
First: Welcome to the forums.
Second: Did you check out the solution in the KB in this thread?
If you have done that, and still have issues please create a support call so our engineers can troubleshoot the issue
thanks

KB helped, changed "Welcome Screen" to US English. But Input in my System is German (Switzerland).
This "Workaround" cant be your final Solution !?

memorx,
Thanks for sharing the update.
Thanks for sharing the update.
As far as I know this workaround should not somehow affect your imput settings. Moreover, you input language should be included in the Recovery Media.memorx wrote: But Input in my System is German (Switzerland)
Veeam Agent for Windows runs under localsystem and the UI relies on English culture. In case Windows OS was installed with non-English culture settings this workaround might be required.memorx wrote: This "Workaround" cant be your final Solution !?

Re: UI: Empty control panel issue
This is what confuses me. My OS ist insalled in English US and Display Englisch US. Just input and Regeonal Settings are set to DE-CH.Dima P. wrote:Veeam Agent for Windows runs under localsystem and the UI relies on English culture. In my expirience, a workaround is to bridge the time until the final solution is ready. Mostly workarounds brings up some new problems in other cases or software.
Is Veeam working on a final solution for this problem ?

[MERGED]UI: Empty control panel issue
Hi,
i got the following problem (Support Case ID is 04236021):
On my Windows 10 Machine with the current Windows Version 2004 i seem to be unable to get the Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 4.0.0.1811 Free Edition working correctly.
They GUI states that the Backup Job did not start. Hovering over the Tray icon tells me a different story, checking the backup destination confirms that a backup is running.
The GUI "mistake" is fine as long as there are no issues.
A fresh install of Windows 10 2004 experiences the same issue.
Any ideas on how to solve that?

Well, Veeam Agent for Windows 4.0.0.1811 officially supports Win10 up to 1909 build, so there might be some problems with 2004.
Let's see what Support says.
/Thanks!

Hi,
I see your support case is closed.
As it's said above the build 2004 is not officially supported yet, but we have such plans for the newest versions.
So you need to wait for the updates which support your build.
Thanks!

Hello RcTomcat,
We've discussed your issue with QA folks and it looks like not related to the 2004 build but to the installed Windows culture on the machine. Can you please follow this KB article and let us know if it helps to resolve your issue. Cheers!

Good day,
The same problem is happening with us. Client’s machines are being upgraded to Windows 10 version 2004, we have no control over this, since we don’t manage them, we just back them up.
It is not related to the Windows culture. Right after upgrading to version 2004 of Windows 10, Veeam Agent backup’s stops.
I found out after some testing a way to get back to normal, and it works on Windows 10 version 2004, no need to downgrade.
Uninstall and reinstall the Veeam Service Provider Console Communication Agent. Don’t need to reboot.
Via the Windows menu, go in the Veeam Management Agent, re-enter Username & Password.
Click Apply.
Reactivate the client via the Veeam Service Provider Console: under the Discovered Backup Agents menu switch to Manage Mode for the deactivated agents.
And Voila! Your Veeam Agent can back up again!

thank you for your reply.
I already tried that before posting here or opening the support case.
My Windows Installs are ALL US English.
I can reproduce the issue in a fresh install with the latest iso image provided by Microsoft.
Locale Settings do not make the difference.
I tried a install with US English, British English and German. All show the same issue with the GUI.
@DatatoSecure
Sounds interesting. Unfortunately there seems to be no way for me to replicate your solution as i am using the free community edition of the veeam agent
Just glad that i am not imagining things ^^.

Just an idea, in your Windows 10 Update settings, in Advanced options, is the following option enabled? “Receive updates for other Microsoft products when you update Windows”

So, here is the solution:
The problem was indeed a culture problem.
Changing the culture AFTER installing 2004 or upgrading to 2004 had no effect for some reason. So i downgraded to 1909, changed the culture to US English, upgraded again to 2004 and the GUI was working again.
So far no further problems have been observed by me on the 2004 build.
Thank you all for your help, i really appreciate it
