Error code: 21 Failed to read data from the file

Hi there,

I'm trying to do a FullBackup to a CIFS Share of a TravelMate 5735Z to a Thecus N2200 NAS.
Installation worked without a problem.
Windows Backup works normaly.
When I try to do a BackupJob with Veeam I get an Error Code 21 after 5-8 Minutes.

The OP's issue was resolved by a private hotfix which is now merged in the latest Endpoint upgrade. Can you please elaborate what version are you using? Thanks

reformatted USB-Drive, deinstalled and reinstalled Veeam Endpoint Backup,
but still the same error:

I have a physical Windows Server 2012R2 with Veeam B&R v8 installed.
I installed Veeam Enpoint Backup on the same server to backup the system patition.
The backup (Volume level backup) finished with an error:error:

Code: Select all

Error: The device is not ready. Error code: 21 Failed to read data from the file [\\?\Volume{2da8b3c6-31eb-49a6-9127-3d3150f02664}]. Failed to upload disk. Agent failed to process method {DataTransfer.SyncDisk}. Exception from server: The device is not ready. Error code: 21 Failed to read data from the file [\\?\Volume{2ad8b3c8-31eb-49a6-9127-5d3140f02964}]. Unable to retrieve next block transmission command. Number of already processed blocks: [0]. Failed to download disk.  

How can I resolve the problem?

As I see, the last case from the thread was closed because customer was having a write-protected partition. Can you clarify your configuration please? In addition, it might be a good idea to open a support case since then we can investigate your logs. Thank you

I my case the hidden recovery partition (HP ProLiant Gen9) was the reason for the error.
When I disable the recovery Partition the backup Job runs without an error.
Why can't I backup the recovery partition?

I see one Disk with 3 partitions in the windows disk Management.
partition 1: Recovery partition (dispalyed in Veeam EB as hidden)
partition 2: EFI system partition (displayed in Veeam EB as hidden)
partition 3; system (C:\)

Thanks, I believe you got two options now. First is to use the volume level backup with this volume unchecked. Second it to disable the read-only mode for this vendor’s partition like described in this article, be advised that some vendors may strictly limit the disk repartitioning in their devices and it may affect your warranty.

i've installed the latest Version 1.5.0.306 on a virtualized Windows 10 Machine. (Hyper-V)
When i Backup the complete Computer i get the following Error:

Failed to download disk.  

It looks like this is a Windows 10 Recovery Partition. Is this a known Problem or is there a way to solve this?

Please open a support case from VEB Control Panel > Support. We need to check the application logs first.

I having a similar issue trying to backup to a shared folder from my Dell Laptop Inspiron 14" 3000 Series (Seagate Momentus ST1000LM024). I already tried to reinstall application, check disk via Windows, Dell Diagnostics and Seatools for Windows: No errors.

This Harddrive is the only connected in Laptop, that have the following partitions/volumes listed with Diskpart:

I haven't noticed that I had 2 RAW volumes listed, because diskmgmt.msc showed the volumes as Healthy. Can be this the cause of issue?

I will try to repair those volumes, but how can I open a new support case if needed?
