Last year this question (post493628.html) was already asked but I wanted to make sure I understood it correctly.
Due to changes with the hardware vendor we are unable to use our previous hardware configuration and need to work around the issue.
The current plan is to make two data volumes on a disk RAID:
Drive C:\ -> Contains the System data and everything relevant to running it
Drive Z:\ -> Contains a data partition to store VHDX files
What would be the best way to backup the contents of the mounted VHDX files?
Backup whole computer?
Volume based backup and exclude the VHDX directory (C + Z)
Volume based Backup and exclude the mounted VHDX volumes (C + D + E + F - Z)
We would like to preserve most functionality of the backup (like file based restore) if possible.
Thanks in advance

Re: Backup of mounted VHDX
Hi Moritz
Mounted VHDX disks are not processed by our backup jobs.
You can protect the entire VHDX file, but it won't give you FLR capabilities with our restore explorer.
Workaround 1:
1. Publish your backup to a windows machine
2. Mount the VHDX inside the backup as a new volume
3. Use explorer to copy files from the mounted VHDX disk to the target location
Workaround 2:
1. Use a file share backup job (SMB or NFS) to backup the content of your VHDX file
Best,
Fabian

Re: Backup of mounted VHDX
Hi Fabian,
Thank you for answering.
Just so I understand it correctly.
Workaround 1:
I should open explore the backup with the file restore tool, export the vhdx and then restore from the backed vhdx?
Workaround 2:
Like a robocopy type of backup?

Re: Backup of mounted VHDX
Workaround 1:
1. Create a backup of the entire VHDX file. Entire Computer, Volume Level Backup or File Level Backup
2. Use our publish disk option to mount your restore point from the disk with the VHDX to a windows machine: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
3. Attach the VHD with windows disk manager from this location: C:\VeeamFLR\original-machinename\Volume*\****
4. Use Windows Explorer to access the content of the mounted disk
Workaround 2:
1. Share the folders on the mounted VHDX disk through SMB
2. Add the SMB share to Veeam: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
3. Use a File Share backup job to protect the data through SMB: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
4. Use Veeam Explorers to restore the backed up files: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
