Backup schedule

Post by backer »

I like to create a backup plan for which I like to save daily backups for 1 week, monthly backups and yearly backups. Is that possible with an incremental plan or do I have to set up a separate plan for each time horizon?

Hi Backer

You can control such a retention with the GFS policy in a single backup job. Each GFS backup will be a full backup.

I have seen that. My prefered option would be increment backups at least for the monthly ones. If there is no other option, I probably have to go with three plans

In that case, three different backup jobs are required. Please keep in mind that if you lose just one of these monthly backups, subsequent monthly backups cannot be used for restores anymore.
I would recommend reconsidering and using full backups.

Thank you. Usually, I would do that. However, 99% of the data is not changed so I would really increase the space requirements. My preffered option here would be a differential backup if available.
