Backup size

Post by burak40 »

I have a question about Veeam Endpoint Backup.
I have a SSD size 250 GB, but in the backup result of VEB is total size 271,6GB.

How is this possible that VEB reads more GB then I actually got?

Burak,

Are you taking a full backup? Because mostly, PC's that have a total size of x GB also have some hidden partitions. We do backup those partitions also as part of a full backup since some of them are necessary to do a full recovery. Considering the difference in size, I might suspect that you are also have a recovery partition (which is hidden) that you are protecting also.

If you go to the wizard, and select volume backup, you will be able to see all the partitions

Let us know

PS: I see in your results that this is the total size of your partitions. The actual backup size (VBK file) should be different, can you verify that?

Thanks

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your fast response to my question. Yes VBK file is 25,8 GB.

I know there are hidden partitions, but my max. disk space is 250GB. How can Veeam read 271.6 GB? Thats what I mean.

Is the 250 GB seen in explorer? Or is that size less?

No, let me explain in details.
I have 1 SSD 250GB storage in my laptop. In the disk management I see 232 GB (thats right, it is not exact 250GB).
So, in the results of Veeam Endpoint Backup says "Total size is 271.6 GB". Correct me if I am not right. How is this possible if my disk max around the 250GB?
Where Veeam gets the other 20GB?

Got it. This looks indeed strange.

Could you use the UI and log a support case? This is free but does not come with an SLA but I would like to see our engineers dive into it to see why it is reporting a different size

Thanks

Mike
