Curious if there has been any more consideration to adding this feature?

Hello nchand,

We are still in discussions regarding this functionality. May I ask how frequently you are going to back up your USB device? Should this backup be deleted by regular retention? Cheers!

This device would be backed up nightly, and would follow normal retention rules.

Really, I want to achieve the configuration I posted here: http://forums.veeam.com/veeam-endpoint- ... 29718.html

Just so happens that my source storage is USB, so I cannot try this out yet.

Thanks. As far as nchand's reply is concerned: me too :-) (i.e. nightly, normal retention rules).

Just wondering, how VEB will react when we will mount external USB drive in NTFS folder and choose entire computer backup? In my case I can see those files in vbk, but I'm not sure now if it's not some kind of glitch... ;-)

Jakub, external drives are not backed up. Here is an existing topic about that > External Drive not being backed up

we will mount external USB drive in NTFS folder
Such folder is going to be treated as a symlink and will be backed up. However, once restored it will be a regular folder without any files inside (since files reside your external drive).

Another example of the need to back up USB-attached drives are laptops that use USB-attached SD memory as just another disk for extra storage space. The data in that memory needs to be backed up on the NAS every bit as much as the system drive does. For many applications, this is a show stopper for your otherwise valuable product. I hope that Gostev's comment that this should probably be done is going to happen.

Any progress on this from the development teams? Volume or even file-level backup of external USB devices would finally allow me to be able to use this product and have it backup my endpoints to my central VBR repository.

nchand, there are no updates since release of v1.5, however we do keep it mind this feature for future major releases.

Since the last post on this chain goes back to May 4, 2016, I would like to also post an inquiry from the Veeam team participation in this discussion:
Has there been any serious consideration to include backing up attached USB drives? We have a business need to do so. Any chance that the feature will be added in the new release of VEB?
Thank you.

Hi All,

some time has passed, but it seems that Veeam Endpoint Backup still is not supporting USB-drives as source.
Any ideas, WHEN this will happen?

Hi Martin,

Probably this feature won’t be introduced in the upcoming release of Veeam Agent for Windows 2.0
