backup Windows 10 with Bitlocker

Post by platinuim »

Hi,

I want to enable bitlocker on my Windows 10 machine and have a few questions, since the https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=50 didn't really help me.
I backup the system disk once a week and store it on a Synology NAS.As far as I can tell from the help page, the source and destination must be unlocked. On the Windows 10 machine, the hard drive is unlocked at login. On the Synology NAS, I don't have any Bitlocker active that could be unlocked.
So my question is whether a backup to the NAS is possible at all?
And if so, whether the data is then also stored encrypted on the NAS?
I will gladly accept any tips.

Best regards,

Hi

I assume you store the backup on a SMB Share?
Then you don‘t use a bitlocker target. You don‘t have to „unlock the target“. This statement is only valid if your backup repository is on a bitlocker enabled disk.
So my question is whether a backup to the NAS is possible at all?
And if so, whether the data is then also stored encrypted on the NAS?
For backup jobs to SMB Share on the Synology you need to choose Shared Folder:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=50

You can encrypt the backups in the advanced settings of the backup job:
